Ad for Free Guy brings Deadpool into the MCU

Well here’s something unexpected: the first time that the Fox-produced Deadpool has crossed over with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appears to be an advert for the movie Free Guy.

Ryan Reynolds has released, on his personal YouTube channel, a video of Deadpool and Korg reacting to a trailer of Free Guy.

Back when Disney bought 21st Century Fox there was uncertainty as to what would happen to the Ryan Reynolds version of Deadpool as it was a Marvel character put together outside of the MCU and tangentially connected to the Fox X-Men movies.

Disney seemed keen to keep this incarnation of Deadpool going and even featured the character on its website shortly after the acquisition.

Many just assumed Deadpool would appear in the MCU eventually, especially with the upcoming Doctor Strange movie said to involve hopping between dimensions. Pulling in the Fox Deadpool wouldn’t bee too much of a stretch.

What we’re sure most people didn’t expect was the vehicle for this crossover to be Free Guy.

This movie, based on a fictional videogame, stars Reynolds as an NPC that gains consciousness.

Free Guy falls under the Disney umbrella too, being made under 20th Century Studio, which it now owns.

Outside of Reynolds and Disney shenanigans Taika Waititi, who provides the voice and some motion capture for Korg, does actually appear in the video above.

Waititi and Reynolds not only worked together on the ill-fated Green Lantern movie from 2011, but Waititi also appears in Free Guy.

With Black Widow released last week the next Marvel movie on the horizon is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and then Eternals. Barring some out of place after credits scene we doubt Deadpool will be appearing in either, so it may be a while before we see that now classic red suit in an MCU movie.
