CS:GO art contest is offering a cool $1 million

Artists around the world have the chance to win some serious money as today Valve kicks off the Dreams & Nightmares Workshop contest asking participants to create gun skins for Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO).

The prize pool here is one million US Dollars with ten winners being chosen each receiving an even $100 000 for their work.

As you may have guessed by the name of this contest the skins needs to be inspired by both dreams and nightmares. Solo artists as well as teams can enter between now and 21st October 2021 when the contest closes.

“We launched the Workshop on Steam almost 10 years ago in the hopes of creating a centralized hub for community created content. Since then, over five million content creators have submitted and published over 20 million new items for a variety of games on Steam, making them available to millions of gamers around the world. And, as everyone who plays these games knows – including CS players – many of the most iconic in-game items, maps, and more have been authored by members of the community. The Dreams & Nightmares Content Contest is designed to help further support this community,” reads the official announcement.

To help entrants out Valve has created a dedicated site for the contest as well as a sub-forum for discussing it on the Steam community.

The official site has a lot of important information such as an FAQ which states that everyone can submit more than one entry, commissions from others are not allowed (you can only submit work you created), work created for other projects prior to this can be submitted and artists / teams can win more than one of the 10 prizes.

As for how the winners are being picked there won’t be any public voting with the CS:GO development team simply picking its favourites instead.

To give entrants a starting point and an idea of what is expected of them, Valve has released several examples, some of which you can see in the gallery below.
