Pokémon Unite launches 21st July with a Zeraora login bonus

Pokémon Unite – the upcoming MOBA based on the popular franchise – now has a release date, at least for its Nintendo Switch version.

The game will launch on the Nintendo console come 21st July. It’s also scheduled for release on mobile though that has no set date at the time of writing with the official website listing the mobile release as simply “coming soon”.

To sweeten the deal all players who log in before 31st August get the mythical Pokémon Zeraora (see the header image above).

Some Zeraora gameplay has been revealed on Twitter and mobile players will not miss out as details for obtaining the Pokémon on that platform will be released in the future.

When Pokémon Unite was revealed back in June 2020 the reception was sour to say the least. Most people, it seems, just weren’t asking for a Pokémon MOBA at the time.

What many people were asking for, at least back then, was any news about remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. We now know that those remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, are well on the way and planned for release at the end of this year, but in June 2020 no official announcement has been made.

Since then it seems many who were not excited by the reveal of Unite have kind of forgotten about it and, looking at replies to this news seems to show a general excitement.

The only real problem people seem to have is a staggered release date for mobile and the fact that there’s no port for PC, a platform where the MOBA genre was born and continues to dominate. We highly doubt any official Pokémon game will come to PC in the future with the only real software connected to the franchise on there being the online client for the card game.

For now it’s the waiting game again as 21st July comes around next week and we can finally play this one.
