Samsung confirms foldable-focused Galaxy Unpacked for 11th August

Earlier this month we reported on Samsung planning to host a Galaxy Unpacked event in August, where the South Korean firm was expected to focus on two new iterations of foldable phone. At the time, it was unconfirmed, but now Samsung has set the date for 11th August, along with the tag line “Get ready to unfold,” hinting at what new hardware will be on display.

“We live in a time of accelerated change—from rapid shifts in work culture to the rise of cutting-edge communication technologies. Now more than ever there is a need for flexible, versatile mobile devices that can keep up with the fast pace of our lives so we can maximize and enjoy every moment,” the company explained in a blog post on its press portal.

“Join Samsung Electronics this August 11 for a Galaxy Unpacked event to unfold the next chapter in mobile innovations designed to help you make the most of every moment, no matter where you are,” it added.

Accompanying the copy is a video, teasing that a new Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip are likely in the offing, going off of the colours and shapes showcased in the aforementioned video, which is featured below.

What improvements Samsung has made are unknown for now, but regardless of the mixed reactions that previous foldable phones have garnered up until now, it is clear that the South Korean company is not giving up on the form factor just yet. Whether there is an appetite for such devices, given their price tags and experimental features, remains to be seen.

Either way, we’ll be tuning in come 11th August at 16:00 local time, where you’ll also be able to watch the live stream on Samsung’s YouTube channel.
