Samsung’s new Galaxy A22 lands locally for R3999

Samsung has really been punting its A series of late, unveiling a number of devices within the lineup to meet different consumer price points. At the beginning of June, this included the new Galaxy A22 and A22 5G, but at the time, a local release and pricing remain unconfirmed.

That changes today, however, as the Galaxy A22 is now available in South Africa starting at R3 999 (RRP).

Those wanting the 5G flavour will have to look at some of the other offerings within the recently debuted A series devices.

As for the A22, it still features a number of notable components despite the lack of 5G. These include a massive 5 000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging. Added to this is a sizeable 6.4″ HD+ Super Amoled display that supports up to 90Hz refresh rates, along with a pinhole on the screen that houses a 13MP front facing camera.

On the rear is a quarter of lenses – 48MP primary, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth sensing and 2MP marco – which should have you covered as far as photography needs go.

Internally an octa-core processor is found, which is split between a dual-core and hexa-core that clock in at 2.0GHz and 1.8GHz respectively. This is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB worth of onboard storage.

Ticking the necessary boxes, the Galaxy A22 could prove a popular option for those on a budget.

“The Galaxy A22 is an impressive device at excellent value that builds on our growing Galaxy A Series portfolio,” notes Justin Hume, director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

“Featuring an immersive display and a versatile camera, our customers can experience next-generation performance, demonstrating Samsung’s commitment to providing accessible devices without compromising on quality,” he adds.

As we have remarked on more than one occasion, it looks like there is plenty of value to be had on the lower end of the smartphone spectrum these days.

The dual SIM-supporting Galaxy A22 is available in Black, Violet and Mint in South Africa, with local retailers listed here.
