Youtuber makes ‘breathing PC’ cooled by bellows

The world of custom computers is wild with talented makers turning PCs into unrecognisable art, but YouTuber DIY Perks has built something wholly unique in the form of a PC cooled by a giant magnetic bellows.

The bellows are the star of the show here made mostly of plexiglass so you can see everything moving. The plexiglass box has a three tubes inside of it and another piece of plexiglass that moves on those tubes, pushing air around.

The magnetically-assisted system here, aside from being a great novelty and modern art piece, is supposed to provide cooling without the noise associated with fans. The low friction design of the system means that the entire volume of the chamber can be cycled around once every second without generating much noise at all.

The PC that the bellows cool is a rather beefy one with the two main heat-creating components being an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and a Zotac RTX 3080. These components were plumbed up to a water blocks and the radiator for this PC is then cooled by a vent system connected to the bellows.

When we first read the title of this video on YouTube we thought for sure the components would be simply left in a regular case with no fans or water included, but this is a clever way to do this as the radiator acts as a vocal point for the heat to be collected and dispersed by the movement of the bellows.

The full video is embedded below and we highly suggest you give it a watch. If you want another DIY Perks video after that we recommend this one where the already avant-garde PlayStation 5 was remade using brass instead of the regular white and black plastic.

Oh and we would be amiss not to mention this – if you Google “bellows” you can actually buy some right now.

Places like online retailer Takealot have a set of them on sale right now for R699. We have no idea what you would buy these for in the current day, especially as these seem to be made like the old ones out of wood and leather. A weird gift for the hipster in your life? Or maybe the “PCs cooled by bellows” market is bigger than we think.
