Marvel’s Midnight Suns has finally brought back a short Wolverine

There’s some constants when you’re talking about Wolverine as he’s supposed to be short, hairy, angry, Canadian… and then all that metal skeleton and mutant stuff.

Because of the popularity of Hugh Jackman’s version of the character the image of Wolverine has become progressively taller, and more American, over time. Thankfully a new title by Firaxis Games and 2K is going back to the short roots.

That game is, of course, the recently announced Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

“Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a new tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe, putting you face-to-face against demonic forces of the underworld as you team up with and live among the Midnight Suns, Earth’s last line of defense,” reads the Steam page for the game, which is up now.

Midnight Suns is the Marvel game that did the rounds as a rumour earlier this year. The last big Marvel game was Avengers which was almost universally panned despite some good elements. Firaxis Games has a solid track record so we’re hopeful that this fresh take on the characters will work here.

The aforementioned Steam page reveals a bit more, such as the involvement of Hydra and a new hero called The Hunter which will likely be the player character.

The last game Firaxis released was Xcom: Chimera Squad in April 2020. It will be interesting to see how close that and Midnight Suns will be in terms of gameplay and setting. Chimera Squad made a massive change from the newer Xcom games by having persistent characters instead of the permadeath soldiers of other titles. Characters which don’t permanently die and can be used throughout the game fits into a Marvel / Avengers setting so it’s easy to see Chimera Squad as a testbed for this.

For those wondering the song in the trailer is a cover of Enter Sandman by Alessia Cara and The Warning. It’s available on The Metallica Blacklist album which isn’t out yet and planned for launch on 10th September.

As for Marvel’s Midnight Suns itself, that’s supposed to be out in March 2022.

Before that a gameplay reveal should be available this time next week, going off of a countdown on the official site for the game. That site is also where you can sign up for the newsletter to unlock Nightstalker Skin for Blade which appears in the trailer.
