New World enjoys another week at the top of the Steam charts

Last week, after becoming available to buy in its unfinished state, upcoming MMO New World managed to be the top first and second seller on Steam, a feat it has been able to repeat this week.

It has been able to get both gold and silver because, as Steam Database (SteamDB) points out, games with multiple editions can show up more than once on the top selling list.

New World is available in both a vanilla version and a Deluxe Edition. This week it is the only game to appear in the top ten more than once.

For the 30th week of 2021, the top selling games on Steam were:

1. New World
2. New World
3. The Ascent
4. Tribes of Midgard
5. Orcs Must Die! 3
6. Index VR Kit Package
7. Theft Auto V
8. Battlefield 1
9. HITMAN 2 – Gold Edition Package
10. Mini Motorways

Outside of the continued success of New World, Orcs Must Die! 3 makes an appearance here after spending a year as an exclusive on Google Stadia. Released on Steam on 23rd July it has been generally well received despite some people still being upset about the store exclusivity.

The real surprise here is the tenth place finish of Mini Motorways, an indie strategy game based on managing traffic. It released on Steam on 20th July and was developer and published by Dinosaur Polo Club.

If that name sounds familiar it’s because it’s the same company behind Mini Metro, a rather beloved game from 2014 focused on subways and trains instead of roads and cars.

“Mini Motorways is a strategy simulation game about designing the road map for a growing city. Build a traffic network, one road at a time, to create a bustling metropolis. Redesign your roads and place your motorways to get everyone where they need to go. How long can you keep the city moving?” the description reads.

Between this strategy game, the puzzle / stealth of Hitman, the MMO of New World and the general action of the rest of the list, it seems like last week was a varied time for best sellers on Valve’s store.
