The Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer will become a standalone game

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the post-launch multiplayer portion of the PlayStation exclusive, will be made available as a standalone game that new players will be able to purchase and buy without ever touching the singleplayer portion of the title.

From 3rd September Legends will become available for purchase for £15.99 / €19.99 / $19.99 depending on your region. No localised pricing has been provided for it yet, and the listing on the PlayStation Store doesn’t seem to be active yet. We can take the UK price as an example, however, as its prices are usually close to what we pay in South Africa.

At the time of writing £15.99 is worth around R320 which, while less than the price of the entire game, is still rather steep for only multiplayer. Here’s hoping the localised pricing is favourable.

Those who play the standalone Legends experience and then want to experience the singleplayer can pay an additional £54 / €60 / $50 (on PlayStation 4) or £44 / €50 / $40 (on PlayStation 5).

As for why this decision was made there’s no clear answer from the announcement written by Darren Bridges, Senior Game Designer at Sucker Punch Productions.

The announcement does talk about new content coming to Legends as well as ” support and enthusiasm blew our wildest expectations out of the water”, so it seems this extra attention is what lead the studio to offering the multiplayer on its own.

That new content is coming in the form of Rivals and Gear Mastery.

Rivals is a PVE experience where two teams fight to defeat waves of enemies where a good performance can hamper the opposing team. You can see a trailer for Rivals at the bottom of this story, which also launches on 3rd September.

Gear Mastery is a system for higher level players that have been putting a lot of time into Legends.

“This is a new expansion of the progression systems and rewards for Legends. Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate “Mastery Challenges.” This will allow a piece of gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class,” Bridges writes.

Legends will also be receiving small updates and fixes, especially around 20th August when the Director’s Cut releases.
