TikTok becomes the latest to dabble in Stories

Much like taxes, a feature that allows users to post content that disappears 24 hours later appears to be a constant that we can rely on.

Just this week Twitter killed off its Fleets feature due to a lack of interest from users but if you’re looking for more ways to share disappearing content, TikTok might soon be your best destination.

The video sharing platform appears to be testing a Stories feature creatively named TikTok Stories. We jest but Twitter tried to rebrand Stories and that went about as well as setting an ice truck on fire to keep it cool.

Like Stories on other platforms, TikTok Stories will only exist for 24 hours after being posted. Creators will have access to all of the tools they have to make videos that exist permanently on TikTok such as the ability to add music, captions and text.

Unlike the content you will find on your TikTok timeline, Stories will live in a new sidebar and users can access or create new Stories there.

When exactly TikTok will launch this feature to all of its users is unclear at this stage as the feature was spotted in the wild and aside from a generic comment to The Verge, details are thin at the moment.

“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a TikTok spokesperson said. “Currently we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community.”

Should TikTok make an official announcement about Stories providing more detail about availability, we’ll be sure to share that information with you.
