Cookie Clicker has a strong first week on Steam

Last week famous idle / clicker game Cookie Clicker made the jump to Steam as a paid title with extra features over its free browser version, and it has proven to be a hit so far.

At the time of writing the game has 6 716 reviews with a whopping 98 percent of them being positive. This leaves Cookie Clicker with an “Overwhelming Positive” overall rating, the highest rating on the platform.

As for how many people are actually playing the game we’ve been keeping a close eye on the official Steam and game statistics page and it has manages to hover just outside of the top ten most played.

Right now 51 621 players are currently in the game but this is a bit lower as it’s a South African morning and the big userbases such as the USA are asleep.

The peak player count for the last 24 hours was 65 433. These two player stats place it in 11th place for the entirety of Steam.

Given the sheer number of games available on Valve’s store, and the big AAA games it is competing against for players, this is another impressive statistic.

Cookie Clicker is currently placed above big names like Rust, Battlefield V, Rainbow Six Siege, Ark: Survival Evolved, Dead by Daylight and many more.

Not bad for a game that originally came out eight years ago and costs just R42 to buy.

As for actual sales no up to date figure exists but the developer of the game, Orteil, did reveal that more than 100 000 copies of the game had been sold a few days ago on 4th September. We have to imagine that this number has grown significantly since then.

Earlier we covered the difference between this R42 Steam version and the free browser and mobile ports which are still available. Most of the differences are small with online saves and new music being the big draws, but upcoming Steam Workshop support is the exciting part.
