The country has now moved to adjusted level 2 lockdown, as the Presidency and National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) have deemed the infection rate for COVID-19 in South Africa to be on the decrease.
While it remains to be seen whether the move will see numbers rise again, for now, they appear to be declining, with 2 640 cases recorded in the past 24 hours according to the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH).
This has seen the total number of cases related to the virus climb to 2 860 835.
The number of fatalities remains a concerning figure, however, with 125 deaths reported and the death toll rising to 85 002. As such, while the numbers are decreasing, the impact of the third wave and delta variant of the virus are still being felt.
Looking at the other figures in the report, the recovery rate has risen to 93.4 percent with 2 671 322 recoveries recorded so far.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 217 752 vaccines administered at sites across the country, showing that turnout has remained high since those aged 18 and over have been made eligible.
As of 17:00 on 13th September, 14 922 954 jabs have been administered in total, with an estimated 7 330 517 people inoculated at this stage.
