COVID-19 in South Africa: 7th September 2021

The latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) on COVID-19 in South Africa makes for mixed reading. This as the number of new infections have decreased, while fatalities are on the rise.

To that end 4 118 cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, which is lower than we have seen in recent weeks. That said, the total number of infections recorded to date has still increased to 2 824 063.

The NDoH also confirms that 198 fatalities have been reported too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa rises to 83 617.

With the number of fatalities remaining at a concerning level, it is becoming increasingly important for the vaccine rollout to continue at its current pace, especially with the predicted fourth wave of infections in December on the horizon.

Sticking with the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 203 825 vaccines administered. As of 17:00 on 6th September, 13 673 651 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 6 623 842 people inoculated at this stage.
