Darkest Dungeon 2 will be on the Epic Games Store first

All the way back in February 2019 Red Hook Studios announced Darkest Dungeon 2 as a direct sequel to the popular strategy roguelike. Now on 26th October 2021 we can play this new game, but only through the Epic Games Store.

Yes like many other titles of every size and genre, Darkest Dungeon 2 will be an exclusive to Epic Games’ platform as announced on Twitter (see the embed below).

A store page has been created and can be viewed here. Unfortunately the page is hilariously sparse with no mention of how long the game will be in early access, its pricing or even any screenshots.

“The eagerly awaited follow-up to Red Hook’s smash hit gothic horror RPG! DDII will test your mettle and drive you to the brink of madness. Armor yourself with purpose and provision your party for the journey ahead. It will be arduous,” reads the short game description.

There is a trailer on the page but it’s the “glimmer of hope” teaser that was released in October 2020.

For those who prefer not to use the Epic Games Store for the long list of reasonable options (no workshop support, wonky localised pricing, no user reviews etc) patience will be needed before the game comes to other platforms, if at all.

Exclusivity on the platform usually lasts or year or, for early access games like this, once the release 1.0 version is made public it comes to other stores.

Hades is a great example of this as it launched in early access on the Epic Games Store and then came to Steam a year later.

For those who haven’t played the first Darkest Dungeon its available on iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam, GOG and Humble Store), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Once again proving why Steam is arguably the best PC platform, the game is also discounted by 85 percent right now bringing the localised price down to just R40.35. This offer lasts until 17th September.
