Facebook and Ray-Ban smart glasses leak online ahead of today’s reveal

Smart glasses have proved more miss than hit as anyone who has used Google Glass will tell you. Still the prospect of a pair made in a collaboration between Facebook and Ray-Ban could prove tempting, with an event for said smart glasses set for later today.

As is often the case, however, leaked images of the smart glasses have surfaced online before the official unveiling.

Leaker du jour Evan Blass took to Twitter to showcase the images of the glasses, which feature Facebook branding on the boxes and come in three different silhouettes, if the images are to be believed – Wayfarer, Round and Meteor.

All we have to work off right now are the above images, with details on the functionality of the wearables yet to be disclosed.

Given how “normal” they look, these new smart glasses could function much like Snap Inc’s Spectacles, as we can see what seems to be a camera housing on the front of the frames.

As such, they may be used to capture content, instead of being fully fledged augmented reality smart glasses, which Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says are still on the way. These Ray-Ban offerings then are the start towards that journey.

How much that journey will cost you remains to be seen with no official pricing or availability shared at this stage. More information, however, should be forthcoming.
