Five ‘Bond Edition’ Land Rovers are coming to South Africa

Jaguar Land Rover has revealed the Bond Edition of the Defender V8, a limited edition run of 300 cars, five of which are destined for South Africa.

“Available to order as a Defender 110 or 90 and inspired by the specification of the Defenders that appear in No Time To Die, the stealthy Defender V8 Bond Edition features an Extended Black Pack with 22-inch Luna Gloss Black alloy wheels, signature Xenon Blue front brake calipers and a ‘Defender 007’ rear badge,” reads a press release sent to us.

Those with deep enough pockets to purchase one of these cars, or get the opportunity to poke around in one, will also find more small touches separating it from the standard version of the Defender.

“The bespoke touches extend to the practical interior, with illuminated ‘Defender 007’ treadplates and a specially developed touchscreen start-up animation for the intuitive Pivi Pro infotainment system that honours Land Rover’s long partnership with the James Bond franchise. At night, customers will also spot unique ‘007’ puddle lamp graphics,” the press release continues.

Unfortunately we’ve read the details for this multiple times already and see no mention of any ejection seats, built-in machine guns or even flamethrowers. A bit inconsiderate for those of us lacking a genius engineer named Q but we’ll get on.

We recently got some hands on time with the regular Land Rover’s Defender 110 which you can see more of here. As the Bond Edition is based on this our experiences should translate.

As for the No Time To Die movie itself it has been delayed what feels like countless times. According to a preliminary theatrical release schedule for South African cinemas, the latest Bond outing will come out on 1st October 2021. With a movie like this which has been moved so much we wouldn’t even pencil that date in.

Back to the car and you can see some glamour shots of it in the gallery below. True to the description it’s a definite draw for the murdered out car enthusiasts with the only pop of colour being those blue brakes.
