Logitech M330 Silent Mouse Review: No Fuss

These days, a mouse can run a fairly wide gamut in terms of functionality, purpose, design and price. Depending on what your need for a peripheral is, the purchase can be a setup changing decision or something you end up ruing. In the case of the wireless Logitech M330 Silent Mouse, it sits in an almost jack of all trades, master of none space.

It is a decent step up from the generic wired option you might bet bundled with your notebook or PC, but certainly not on a gaming mouse level that takes precision, feedback and ergonomics to a different plane.

At R258 (RRP), the M330 Silent Mouse does not break the bank either, so it needs to meet bare minimums while not featuring too many unnecessary bells and whistles.

Having put it to use in our own Work From Home (WFH) setup for a little over a week, here are our thoughts on this no frills, no fuss offering from Logitech.

Unobtrusive

Starting with design, as we tend to do, the M330 Silent is much like the name would suggest. From an aesthetic standpoint, there is not a lot to get engrossed by. In fact, it feels a little bit like design by committee, which makes sense given the price tag and the fact that it is meant to slip seamlessly into a WFH setup. On that front it gets the job done, with the all black colourway not offending in anyway.

Closer inspection does, however, reveal a handful of subtle design flourishes. These include the different textures between materials used for the clicker/wheel portion and the rear which your palm rests on while in-use. There’s also a geometric triangle pattern running across the section that your thumb would be, provided you’re a right handed user.

Where something like the MX Vertical pushes the boundary in terms of what Logitech can do for a business or productivity-focused mouse, the M330 is a bit more vanilla and that’s perfectly fine.

While it may not immediately draw your attention, we did find the ergonomics on offer to be quite impressive. Resting your hand on the mouse and moving it throughout a typical work day was a breeze and we never felt encumbered by the peripheral.

Added to this was a seamless setup via USB dongle and a rapid connection when we toggled the on switch underneath the mouse on.

Everything simply works as it is intended. For a stock standard WFH setup, this is certainly up to snuff.

Fairly quiet

Now let’s switch to the Silent aspect of this mouse. Logitech’s literature on the peripheral claims it eliminated 90 percent of clicking sounds compared to a normal mouse. We’ve decided not to get noise level meter out to verify the claims, but in general use, it is far more quiet than the mouse we usually employ, which is an Apple Magic Mouse (first iteration).

We did hear some noise emanate from the peripheral, but any loud clicking was all but gone. Of you do indeed need to keep things as silent as possible, this will get the job done, just don’t expect there to be no sound whatsoever.

Sticking with the clicking, the feedback on the mouse does take some time to get use to. In the first couple of days we found ourselves doubling clicking when we did not intend to. This is by no means a deal breaker, but simply something you may want to be cognisant of once you remove the M330 Silent from the packaging.

Another element to shout out is the stability of the connection, with Logitech stating the range maxes out at 10 metres. While we do not operate the M330 Silent at that range, we never experienced a drop in connectivity once during our entire time using it. Powered by a single AA battery, Logitech says this peripheral will muster up to 24 months before it dies out too, so maintenance looks to be kept to a minimum on this option.

Final verdict

The Logitech M330 Silent Mouse is not sexy, if WFH peripherals can even be sexy. And you know what, it does not need to be. The mouse is well priced, a breeze to setup, yields a constant and stable connection while keeping clicking and clacking to a minimum. While the silent performance is what Logitech aims to market here, it is the no frills, no fuss all-around performance of the M330 that really impressed us.

If the bundled cheap option on your notebook or PC is simply not cutting it, then the M330 Silent is a worthwhile replacement that won’t cost too much at R258 (RR). Should you need a reliable, but affordable WFH peripheral, this one comes highly recommended.
