Many Ubisoft games become unplayable due to server issues

Most Ubisoft games on PC have become unplayable due to server issues which have rendered even singleplayer games dead in the water.

Users attempting to play any official Ubisoft games in the last few hours have experienced a variety of problems which the company has termed “degradation” which is a fancier way of saying that everything is completely broken right now.

“Players may be disconnected from multiplayer and unable to connect to servers or other online features, services, forums, and websites,” Ubisoft writes on its support forum.

While multiplayer games are said to be impacted every single title the company offers seems to be affected because they require validation through the company servers to launch.

Ubisoft has provided a list of games it says may be affected:

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity
  • Far Cry 3
  • Far Cry 5
  • For Honor
  • Ghost Recon Breakpoint
  • Ghost Recon Wildlands
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • The Division
  • The Division 2
  • Trials Fusion
  • Watch Dogs 2
  • Watch Dogs Legion

We know for a fact, through first hand experience, that this list is not at all complete. We tried to play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with no success during this time.

It’s quite impressive the sheer number of ways that the game was broken and the useless errors that the Ubisoft Connect client gave us.

Sometimes the game will fail to launch at all citing problems synching saves or spouting out that we don’t own the game and a CD key needs to be inputted, despite the fact that we’ve already played it for dozens of hours.

On the odd occasion that the game does launch it can only be played for a few minutes before hard crashing to the desktop.

All of this is a real slap in the face to customers as they’re told they can’t access games they own because of server issues. This is doubly insulting for those who simply want to play singleplayer content that shouldn’t need a server connection anyway.

There’s also the issue of subscribers to the Ubisoft Plus service, an extremely expensive product that may be the priciest monthly buy at €14.99 (~R252). Will customers be refunded for the days they’re left unable to access a service they’re paying for?

It’s not just paying customers impacted either. We recently brought you the news that Far Cry 3 is being given away for free right now. That has also been put on hold due to all of these problems.
