New iPad mini starts at R8 999 in South Africa, pre-orders now open

On Tuesday Apple showed off an all new iPad mini that, to us at least, was far more interesting than the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models.

At the time we didn’t have information about local pricing and availability, but now iStore, an official purveyor of Apple goods in South Africa, has announced that pre-orders are open today.

Prices start at R8 999 for the 64GB iteration of the iPad mini with WiFi only. Prices extend to R14 399 for the 256GB iteration with WiFi and Cellular.

Models 64GB 256GB
iPad mini WiFi R8 999 R11 699
iPad mini WiFi and Cellular R11 699 R14 399

The iStore says that customers can get up to R8 000 toward a new iPad mini when trading in their old iPad. We should state that this amount will depend on the condition of your iPad.

The latest slate from Apple features support for 5G connectivity and the Lightning port has been swapped out for a USB Type C port.

Touch ID is present in the button at the top of the slate and Apple’s Pencil can be magnetically snapped to the tablet for easy storage.

The front facing camera has been updated to an Ultra Wide 12MP sensor which support Apple’s Center Stage. This feature automatically pans and zooms the camera to keep the subject in view.

When can you expect your new iPad? iStore simply states your order will ship in “4 – 6 weeks” so it could be a while before you receive your order.
