Queer Eye LEGO set bound for South Africa at R1800

LEGO has announced a new set based on the Netflix reboot of Queer Eye and South Africans will be able to purchase it from 5th October 2021 for R1 799.99.

For the money, buyers will get a set with 974 pieces that builds an apartment and features seven minifigures – the Fab 5 as well as two for Kathi Dooley showing her appearance before and after a makeover. There’s extras included too such as Bruley the dog and extra clothing options in the box.

“As you recreate all the details that make up the interior of the Fab 5’s original Atlanta loft, you’ll discover lots of features from the show with tributes to each of the Fab 5’s special talents. There’s a kitchen island for Antoni, a clothing rack for Tan, Jonathan’s swivel salon chair and Karamo’s couch and scrap book. And this space is Bobby-approved as he helped design this very special LEGO interior,” reads the description of the set.

Once assembled the loft measures in at 9 X 35 X 21 centimetres (height X width X depth).

Outside of the physical bricks LEGO is also aiming this as a lifestyle product encouraging people to pick up this set and enjoy the building experience as “a moment of self-care”. We’re not sure we entirely agree with that but building LEGO can be fun so we’ll let it slide.

Also leaning into that mantra is the instruction book which is “coffee-table-style” featuring extra information about how this set was created and how the Fab 5 themselves were involved in the process.

This product continues LEGO’s focus on inclusion and support of the LGBTQIA+ community. Earlier this year the company also released the set Everyone is Awesome which proved to be a rather big success as it sold out locally almost instantly and has been difficult to find for sale ever since.
