SEC has reportedly subpoenaed Activision Blizzard

The hits keep coming for Activision Blizzard and no, we aren’t talking about the publisher’s catalogue of games.

In a report by the Wall Street Journal (paywall) it’s alleged that Activision Blizzard has been subpoenaed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The reason for the subpoena? The SEC wants to determine whether Activision Blizzard disclosed information about claims of harassment and discrimination in a timely fashion.

As you might recall, Activision Blizzard recently became the subject of a lawsuit brought by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. In that lawsuit, it was alleged that the game publisher had fostered a toxic workplace with discrimination and sexual harassment running rampant.

The SEC wants to discover if Activision Blizzard disclosed allegations of sexual harassment and gender-pay issues to investors in a timely fashion which, if it didn’t, could land the publisher in hot water.

According to the report several current and former Activision Blizzard employees have been subpoenaed including current CEO Bobby Kotick. The documents the SEC wants to see include employment agreements, separation agreements and communications between senior executives.

With that having been said, this is yet another legal woe to add to the pile that appears to be growing in Irvine, California.

The firm says it is co-operating with the SEC’s investigation.
