Steam problems since the download change? There’s an update for that

Recently Steam got a shakeup in the form of a new download page but for those of us who have been experiencing some problems since then there’s a new update to hopefully fix things.

Speaking from personal experience our install of the Steam client has been misbehaving. Failing to open unless run as an administrator, jumping between pages, occasionally displaying nothing and a litany of other small irritations.

None of these have been serious enough to make the client inoperable but it is unlike the piece of software that usually runs rather flawlessly.

If you’ve experienced anything like that, or any other problems, this update is for you.

The full patch notes are rather short:

General

  • Stop automatically navigating to the game details page when starting a game
  • Fix occasional black screens or errors in the library when launching a game through the Play button in the store or a shortcut.
  • Fix black screen in move app content dialog in case no available other drive was found
  • Menu items View/Library and Games/View Games Library will now navigate to the library home page instead of just switching back to the library tab at whatever position the user was previously.

Downloads

  • Fix ‘remove from queue’ button on scheduled items not updating the lists to indicate that the item has been moved to unscheduled.

Since installing the new update we haven’t had any of the aforementioned problems we described but we’ll need to spend more time with the updated client before we call the bugs squashed.

And no that’s not an excuse to just play games at work.

Those who are still experiencing issues with the latest version of the Steam client can head to the official troubleshooting page with general information with further support available there linking to the help wizard and Steam forums.
