Super Follows begin rolling out, prices start at $2.99 per month

Following an announcement earlier this year, Twitter has started to rollout Super Follows, a way for users to monetise their Twitter feeds.

The social network has started rollout for Super Follows but for now the feature is limited to a small group within in the US. While users can join the waitlist there are some requirements to join it and there is no word on how long it will take for you to be granted the opportunity to charge for follows.

To be eligible for the waitlist you need:

  • 10 000 followers or more
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have tweeted at least 25 times in the last 30 days
  • Be in the US

So what are Super Follows? Essentially they function like DMs and only subscribers will be able to access the content. Creators can set their own price and price points currently set by Twitter are $2.99, $4.99 and $9.99.

“Right now, people in the U.S. and Canada using iOS can Super Follow select accounts and we’ll be rolling it out to people using iOS globally in the next few weeks. Creators can share Super Follows Tweets on iOS only and Super Follows Tweets can be viewed on iOS, with Android and twitter.com coming soon,” explains staff product manager at Twitter, Esther Crawford.

The last year has really seen an increase in the number of monetisation options for creators on Twitter. The platform has introduced Ticketed Spaces for creators who want to monetise conversations through Spaces. There is also the Tip Jar where you can tip creators directly through Twitter.

We’re rather interested to see how Super Follows are received and while we have our doubts about how popular it will be, more options for creators isn’t a bad thing.

Whether Super Follows will be extended to the rest of the world is unclear at this stage.
