Cookie Clicker, the (in)famous semi-idle game with a very descriptive name, is now available on Steam with a very low localised price.
When we covered the Steam port of the game last month we didn’t have a local price just yet with only the US price of $4.99 (~R71.49), but shortly after launch in the last 24 hours we now know that the price is R42 for South Africans.
While this is undeniably cheap, even for a small indie title, some may be confused as Cookie Clicker is a free game that earned its reputation as a distraction you could play at any time in your browser.
Well that hasn’t changed. The original Cookie Clicker remains on its site right here where you can click and play with no barriers. There’s also an Android app that’s similarly free.
Aside from supporting the developer who has maintained this game for more than eight years, there are reasons to buy the Steam version. The description for the game on the storefront has these benefits listed to lure in players who may have experienced Cookie Clicker in the past:

We have to wonder if the “pet your dragon” bullet point is a reference to the very popular Twitter user “Can You Pet the Dog?“.
We’re excited for the workshop support here too. Cookie Clicker is a community favourite and we’re sure that community has a lot of ideas about additions and changes that can be made to the core game.
We wouldn’t be surprised if someone makes a complete conversion mod to replace cookies with something else. It will probably be anime girls, but maybe the internet will surprise us. Nah it will probably just be anime girls.
