Trying to earn One Thousand Voices in Season of the Lost? Here’s our strat

Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost is currently underway and that means there are new Artifact mods to unlock that mix up gameplay quite substantially compared to Season of the Splicer.

This season, Linear Fusion and Fusion Rifles are the weapons of choice for end-game content thanks to one mod – Particle Deconstruction. This mod can be unlocked in the seasonal artifact at around the level 33 mark.

This class item mod applies a debuff to a target when they are hit by a Fusion or Linear Fusion rifle. This debuff stacks and increases the damage dealt to the target by up to 40 percent. By adding even more debuffs (in an order we’ll get to) you can absolutely melt end-game bosses.

This mod has brought Fusion and Linear Fusion rifles squarely into the meta and two of these weapon types are proving rather popular namely Sleeper Simulant and One Thousand Voices.

The better of those two weapons for end-game content is One Thousand Voices.

The trouble is that One Thousand Voices can only be unlocked by defeating Riven of a Thousand Voices in the Last Wish Raid. As it’s a random drop, that means you are not guaranteed a drop upon completion.

That means you are going to have to farm the final encounter in order to test your luck and we have some advice in that regard.

Loadout and Team composition

Your team should comprise of the following classes and subclasses:

  • A Hunter running Stasis with Duskfield Grenades
  • A Hunter running top-tree Nightstalker
  • A Titan running Ward of Dawn
  • A Warlock running Well of Radiance and an Empowering Rift

A second Warlock running Well of Radiance is nice but not expressly needed.

As for loadouts, we’re being specific here for a reason. These weapons and mods are what we have found to be the best options for DPS.

  • Any primary
  • Merciless/Cartesian Coordinate with Boss Spec
  • Threaded Needle with Vorpal Weapon and Boss Spec Mod

Why have we not included Sleeper Simulant in this loadout? We found that despite it’s big DPS numbers, having to aim down sights and hope that Sleeper’s ricochet rounds don’t hit Riven’s eyes was causing too much delay in DPS and you are going to need every second you can get.

Merciless is great thanks to the fact that its rate of fire increases as you fire but Threaded Needle with Vorpal Weapon and Boss Spec is the play here. With all debuffs and buffs applied, we were hitting for over 120 000 damage per shot with Threaded Needle and it made light work of Riven.

If you don’t have Threaded Needle, this can be acquired using the Hammer of Proving from Season of the Chosen or through focusing Tier 1 engrams from Season of the Lost in the Prismatic Recaster at the H.E.L.M. The perk in the second last column doesn’t matter but you definitely want Vorpal Weapon.

Moving onto mod loadouts. We’ve mentioned Particle Deconstruction but there is one more worth investing in – Focusing Lens. This mod allows you to do bonus damage with Light abilities to a target affected by Stasis. For some reason, if a player is standing within a Well of Radiance, any damage they deal counts as Light ability damage. This means that if you have Focusing Lens equipped and you are standing in a Well of Radiance attacking something affected by Stasis, you get the damage bonus.

Our advice is that your entire Fireteam runs Focusing Lens and Particle Deconstruction. This requires a Masterworked class item but it’s an investment worth making in our opinion.

Three Rivens, one Queenswalk

First things first, you need to get to Riven.

While you can run the entirety of the Last Wish Raid, we recommend wishing your way to Riven. Thanks to Shack News you can find the wish you need to enter in the wishing wall near the first encounter here. You can follow this video for the route to the wishing wall.

Once you have completed the wish, stand on the central plate and your team will wipe and you will appear in the final encounter.

How to cheese the Riven encounter

The full Riven encounter is something we recommend doing at least once properly as it is a fantastic fight with great mechanics. However, because we’re maximising our farm, we’re cheesing the fight.

Start the encounter by standing on the plates in the main room. You will then descend into Riven’s prison. At this stage our fireteam runs as six into the room with the blue crystal. It’s important the team enters the room together as the door will close.

At this stage it’s important to check the back wall in the main room. If you see a shadow flit across the wall, you stay in that room. You can see an example of this in the video below.

If you don’t see a shadow you need to leave the room with ads (additional spawns) and run to the far-side of the room where the door closed previously. You are looking for a spot where you get the message “Joining Allies”. From here you need to run to the right side of the room where you stood on the plates.

Follow the route taken in video below to get to the room where the encounter will take place.

Once you are in a room where Riven will appear you will need to shoot ads until the boss arrives. As soon as Riven shows her head the order of operations should be:

  • Warlock plants Well of Radiance in between the two planters in front of Riven. The Empowering Rift should go down as well.
  • Titan pops Ward of Dawn (bubble) against the wall behind the Warlock so that players can get the Weapons of Light buff easily.
  • Stasis Hunter hits Riven’s foot with a Duskfield Grenade – Target the foot to your left
  • Nightstalker Hunter uses Tether on Riven’s foot – Target the foot to your left
  • Team begins DPS

This order of operations is incredible important. The Hunter Duskfield Grenade and Tether should be applied before any DPS is done so those players should call out when those abilities are used.

Your main DPS tool should be Threaded Needle but we found that hitting Riven with a Fusion Rifle first helped to build up the Particle Deconstruction’s buff faster.

This will take some time to perfect. Keep calm and run it a few times and you will eventually get it right.

After you have dealt enough damage you will be transported to a Throne World and one member of your party will need to reach the Taken Strength at the end of a jumping puzzle. It’s important that you don’t wipe here as you will need to run the entire process again.

Riven will once again appear and you will need to kill her before running into her mouth to destroy her heart. Killing the heart will end the encounter and you will then have to run Queenswalk.

Except we recommend not running Queenswalk, at least not yet.

The reason we say this is that you only get three shots at One Thousand Voices a week and Queenswalk can take some time. So, we recommend switching to your other characters – if you have any – so that you can get additional chest tokens before running Queenswalk. This way you can open three chests at the end of the Raid without having to run Queenswalk three times.

Now that you have three tokens it’s time to run the final encounter.

We could explain how to do this but watching a video is just better.

A few things we found helped our fireteam were:

  • Picking up Taken Strength and backing away from the Heart holder when the countdown reaches 3 seconds
  • Roaming supers to deal with ads
  • Electing the first person who is Fate’s Chosen as the person to always collect the final Taken Strength within the Heart
  • Clear callouts and constant countdowns

Queenswalk will take a few attempts, in all honesty it took our fireteam longer to complete Queenswalk than it did to kill Riven three times.

Once the Heart has been dunked, the encounter is over and you can collect your loot.

As mentioned, One Thousand Voices is a top-tier choice for end-game encounters in Season of the Lost and while farming Riven over and over again can become tedious, if you’re lucky enough to get it, even Atheon will be a push over.

Make me yours, O’ Guardian mine.
