This week numbers related to COVID-19 in South Africa appear to be lower than ever.
That said, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) does show an increase in both newly recorded cases and fatalities, but that is a normal trend we have seen during lockdown as the week progresses.
Regardless, the current figures on the spread of the virus look more positive than they have in months.
More specifically, the NDoH confirms that 592 cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of infections recorded for the country to date to 2 912 938.
Looking at fatalities, they are up slightly from the previous day, as 83 have been reported. As a result, the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa is now 88 429.
With numbers far lower now than we have seen for awhile, it places even greater importance on the vaccine rollout. To that end the past 24 hours has seen 205 681 jabs administered as turnout to sites across the country are picking up.
As of 17:00 on 12th October, 19 461 202 vaccines have been administered in total, with an estimated 10 218 549 people fully vaccinated at this stage.
