As we continue under adjusted alert level 1 lockdown, the latest numbers regarding COVID-19 in South Africa look increasingly promising.

This as the National Department of Health confirm 429 new cases over the past 24 hours, as the total number of infections recorded to date now sits at 2 906 851.

Added to this, the concerning metric of fatalities also appears to be trending downward as 39 deaths have been reported too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa increases to 87 819.

These recent positive numbers are all the more reason why South African citizens should heed government’s call to get vaccinated.

Speaking of which, the past 24 hours has seen 184 324 vaccines administered as government looks to re-ramp up efforts in that department, particular on weekends. As of 17:00 on 4th October, a total of 18 073 784 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 9 213 503 people inoculated at this stage.

Looking at some of the other key figures in the NDoH report, the recovery rate has increased slightly to 95.7 percent, owing to the recent number of new cases, with the department also noting that over 17.8 million tests have been conducted so far.
