This week we have been eagerly tracking the numbers regarding COVID-19 in South Africa, with the latest figures looking more positive in terms of the spread of the virus.
According to the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH), 768 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours and while that it is considerably less than what we have seen in recent weeks, it does mark a significant amount more than the previous day.
As such, we will need to see where we stand by the week’s end. For now, the total number of infections for COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 2 907 619.
Looking at the other key figures in the report, fatalities are on the rise, with 103 deaths reported by the NDoH as the total number of deaths related to the spread of the virus rises to 87 922.
The department also confirms that over 17.82 million tests have been conducted to date, while the recovery rate is currently 95.7 percent.
As for the vaccine rollout, which is more crucial than ever as a fourth wave of infections looms large next month, the past 24 hours has seen 197 698 jabs administered at sites across the country.
As of 17:00 on 5th October, a total of 18 285 920 vaccines has been administered, with an estimated 9 364 725 people inoculated at this stage.
