Disney’s slate of 2022 Marvel films delayed

With regulations and restrictions regarding the pandemic loosening across the globe, the prospect of heading to a cinema to watch a movie is becoming a reality again. The latest announcement from Disney on Marvel movies, however, will mean fans of the films will have to wait a while longer.

This as Variety reports that most of the Marvel films slated for release in 2022 are set to be delayed.

As such, it has resulted in some shuffling of dates for films originally scheduled to hit cinemas in 2022 and 2023, with some delays longer than others.

For example, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness has now been pushed back to 6th May from its original 25th March release. This has a domino effect as Thor: Love and Thunder is now delayed until 8th July and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has moved to 11th November.

As for 2023 Marvel flicks, The Marvels has been postponed until early 2023 with no official date yet, along with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania moving to 28th July that year.

It is not only Marvel properties that have been impacted by delays, with the latest instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise pushed back a full year to 30th June 2023.

While no official statement has been made at the time of writing as to why the delay has occurred, Variety’s sources say that it is production-related and has nothing to do with potential box office returns. Given that many, if not all, of the Marvel films these days are interconnected in some way, a delay in production of one impacts the entire MCU.

With Marvel Studios noting the importance of its films being experienced in theatres earlier in the year. Fingers crossed the movies currently on the slate do not suffer another delay.
