LG’s QNED mini-LED TVs heading to SA this month, starting at R55k

Earlier this year, LG South Africa showcased its new lineup of 2021 OLED evo and QNED mini-LED TVs that would be hitting our shores in the coming months.

The time has come for the latter range, with the QNED mini-LED range expected locally later this month.

You can check out LG’s current home entertainment offerings here, with the QNED options yet to populate the portal. That said, the company has advised that pricing for the range will start at a recommended price of R54 999.

Unpacking the technology behind these new TVs, LG explains the mini-LED design offers better visuals as far as backlighting is concerned.

“These mini-LEDs are not only greater in number but also much smaller, allowing them to produce brighter images at a much greater level of detail. QNED Mini-LED TVs also feature Full-Array Local Dimming, which dims the light source behind a certain part of your screen to match the picture demands, with the improved precision of 2500 dimming zones,” a press release sent to Hypertext points out.

“With more mini-LEDs and more dimming zones, the QNED Mini-LED TV’s backlighting is more luminous while producing deeper blacks with less bleeding, giving it an impressive 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. A typical LCD display has a contrast ratio of only 1000:1,” it adds.

Along with the improvements to the panel, the other components powering the viewing experience on this range include LG’s 4th generation α9 AI processor, as well as Dolby Vision being standard and support for Dolby Atmos.

Added to this is 4K resolution across the board at up to 120Hz refresh rates, along with some models going up to 8K HDR at 60fps.
