Loadshedding has been ramped up to Stage 4 following a power alert from Eskom at the top of the hour.
Stage 4 loadshedding will kick in at 12:00 on Wednesday and run through until 05:00 on Friday morning. Thereafter, Stage 2 will be in effect until 05:00 on Saturday morning.
“Over the past 24 hours a unit each at Medupi, Kusile and Matla power stations tripped while a unit each at Lethabo and Arnot power stations were forced to shut down. This constrained the power system further requiring extensive use of emergency reserves and therefore, hampering the recovery of these reserves,” Eskom wrote in a power alert.
The utility goes on to report that unplanned outages amount to 14 957MW while planned maintenance accounts for 5 301MW of generation capacity being unavailable. That means that as much as 20 258MW of generation capacity is currently unavailable in South Africa.
As always, we advise checking out the Eskom loadshedding site and Eskomsepush on mobile to keep up to date with what times your area will be affected and when to charge necessary devices for the coming week.
Regretfully Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from 12:00 on Wednesday until 05:00 on Friday; thereafter Stage 2 loadshedding will continue as previously communicated until 05:00 on Saturday pic.twitter.com/H7CR4bk0A0
