Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has a Very Positive reception on Steam

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, the anticipated brawler based on Nickelodeon’s slate of characters, launched yesterday to some decent reviews from buyers.

On Steam, at the time of writing, the game has just over a thousand reviews with 81 percent of them being positive. This leaves All-Star Brawl with a “Very Positive” overall rating.

Looking at some of those reviews and ignoring the meme comments about SpongeBob SquarePants and it seems that the game has delivered on what it promised in its marketing material by being a solid fighter based on the formula of Smash Bros..

Unfortunately the generally positive reviews haven’t translated into a massive amount of people flocking to the game. Steam’s official game and player statistics page, which lists the top 100 games on the platform in terms of players, has All-Star Brawl unlisted which means it has not cracked into the prestigious club just yet.

We can use some unofficial tools to get a better idea of the game’s success with Steam Database (SteamDB) reporting a peak player count in the last 24 hours of 13 314 and 3 403 in the game at the time of writing. That second number is probably less indicative of actual player numbers as it’s currently morning here in South Africa and bigger markets like the USA are still asleep.

SteamSpy gives a very broad estimate for the number of owners with 20 000 being the maximum.

Of course it’s worth remembering that All-Star Brawl isn’t only available on PC but also launched on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. As the stores for those consoles are more locked down we can’t get access to any performance metrics for the game.

We’ll have to wait for official numbers to be provided about this game’s success (or lack thereof) as time goes on.

It can’t help the progress of this game as an alternative to Smash Bros. when, yesterday as All-Star Brawl launched, the final fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was announced.

As Sora ends off new fighters being added to the game the announcement for him sucked up a lot of the internet’s attention.
