SA pre-orders open for Xbox Anniversary Special Edition controller

Last week Microsoft announced Anniversary Special Edition hardware to celebrate 20 years of Xbox, and now you can order the new controller for this promotion in South Africa.

Three South African retailers – Raru, BT Games and Nexus – now have the controller available to pre-order.

Overseas the controller launches on 15th November and costs $69.99 (~R1 051), but neither of those details are true for our country. All three retailers have the release date of 26th November and a price of R1 499.

This is the newest design of Xbox controllers that rolled out with the Series X|S, but you can also use it on Windows, Android and iOS.

So how does it stack up to the regular controller you can buy right now? You can expect to pay R1 399 for a regular Xbox controller so there’s a R100 premium here. There’s both some cosmetic changes as well as a software incentive.

“Sleek and sentimental – all in one package. The 20th Anniversary Special Edition controller is a fresh spin on the translucent green of the original Xbox Debug kit. The body of the controller features a translucent black finish with silver internals so you can see every detail. The nostalgic, green Xbox button brings us back to the first green Xbox logo. The iconic color can also be found on the back grips and around the hybrid D-pad,” reads the announcement.

The controller unlocks a 20th Anniversary dynamic background which you can see here. Connecting the controller to another Series X|S will unlock the background so you can go around giving it as a gift to other people if you own this and are so inclined.

“Once you choose another background, however, this one will disappear, and you will need to re-connect the 20th Anniversary controller to unlock it again,” adds Microsoft.

You can see some glamour shots of the controller in the gallery below.
