Seasonal event for No Man’s Sky looks suspiciously like Dune

This week the latest movie adaptation of Dune finally launches in South Africa and other parts of the world, and No Man’s Sky seems to be wanting a piece of the pie with a new event.

That event is Expedition 4: Emergence and let us tell you about some features of it that may sound familiar when you think of Dune: giant Sandworms, “cursed dust”, deserts, riding said Sandworms and a mysterious cult.

“Across the universe, planets have been blighted by the activity of Titan Worms. These colossal sandworms plough through the desert sands, blacking out the sun as they arc overhead, and defiling the very terrain with their cursed dust,” reads the description of the event.

“Travellers on this Expedition will find themselves stranded on planet Wasan, a barren world ravaged by dust storms and infested with Titan Worms. It is up to you to locate the Titan Worm impact sites, destroy the wretched Hungering Tendrils, and collect the Vile Spawn that lingers behind. The vessels of the many mouths must be purged!”

The event kicks off today, 20th October, and will run until Halloween, 31st October. Aside from the pseudo-Dune theme this will also feature its own narrative which, according to Hello Games, is the first Expedition to do so.

More details about Expedition 4: Emergence can be found on the No Man’s Sky website, but we have to again give a warning about visiting it on PC. Leaving the page open will quickly ramp up your CPU usage and, in some cases, even up to 100 percent. The update pages for No Man’s Sky events and expansions are also packed with videos and animations which seem to stay in memory as you scroll down.

Finally, for those who want to buy the game, it’s currently 50 percent off on Steam and the PlayStation Store. The game is also available for Xbox on the Microsoft Store and PC through GOG and Humble, but these don’t have any discounts right now. No Man’s Sky can also be played for no additional purchase through Xbox Game Pass.
