Street Fighter V skins will benefit breast cancer research

Capcaom has announced a charitable partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to raise funds with special skins for Chun-Li and Ryu.

Between 12th October and 12th November players can buy these skins in Street Fighter V on the PC version via Steam or on PlayStation 4.

“…Capcom will donate 100% of the proceeds that it receives for the purchases of the Chun-Li and Ryu costumes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation with a guaranteed minimum donation of $25,000 USD. Capcom will disclose the total amount of its donation following the end of the campaign,” reads a press release sent to us.

For those who would like to donate to BCRF outside of buying the skins a fundraiser for the foundation is available here with a goal of $20 000.

Alternatively anyone willing can donate directly to BCRF outside of anything to do with Street Fighter V. The donation page here also points out that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and donations are matched up to $100 000 during this period.

“Every 14 seconds, somewhere in the world, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Globally, breast cancer causes the greatest number of cancer-related deaths among women—with an estimated 685,000 women this year alone. But thanks to research, progress is possible. In the U.S., deaths from breast cancer has declined by 40 percent since BCRF was founded,” the press release adds.

In our country according to this post by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), in 2017 one in 26 women are at risk when it comes to developing breast cancer and 16 percent of cancer deaths are caused by it. For Breast Cancer Awareness Month CANSA is championing early detection and self-examination at home.

Back to Chun-Li and Ryu and you can see some images of the pink skins for the two characters in the gallery below.

We understand that these two are arguably the most popular characters in the franchise but Dan already wears a pink gi so he would have been perfect for this promotion.
