In June this year, Vodacom gave us a look into the development of its super app – VodaPay. At the time, the one-stop digital marketplace was looking to onboard local merchants and devs, but now it is ready to launch to the public.
“Available to customers on any mobile network, VodaPay launches with significant partners and discounts including exclusive R1 deals on multiple products on the app,” explains a press release sent to Hypertext.
“VodaPay delivers a digital shopping, lifestyle and financial platform for both consumers and businesses. It is backed by Alipay technology that powers over 1.2 billion users and almost 100 million merchant partners, using state of the art technology including artificial intelligence (AI). This is the first partnership of its kind in Africa,” it adds.
The application is currently on the Google Play Store for Android phone users and Apple App Store for those using an iOS device.
As Vodacom noted earlier in the year, they are aiming for this platform to be an all-encompassing solution that will offer more than simply the option to buy airtime or transfer money between users, with more features being touted down the line.
Part of this expansion is aimed at local SMEs.
“In addition to driving financial inclusion for consumers, the VodaPay super app is also breaking down the entry barriers for SMMEs looking to grow and expand their businesses. Businesses can now build their own mini programs in the VodaPay super app and join some of South Africa’s leading brands that are already on the app. The mini programs are zero rated and incurs no data costs for online businesses,” adds the network.
