We’ll never have to cringe at YouTube’s Rewind ever again

When it first launched in 2010, YouTube Rewind was a short recap of the most popular videos on the platform. In the years that followed Rewind became more of a showcase of the most popular creators and the most recent iterations haven’t gone down well.

The most widely hated Rewind was the one that was released in 2018 and it has garnered 19 million dislikes to date compared to the three million likes the video has.

That was worse than we remember.

The good news is that YouTube will never be doing a Rewind ever again according to an exclusive report by Tubefilter.

Instead, YouTube will highlight recaps of the year created by YouTubers although none of these recaps will be funded by the platform.

“Since Rewind started in 2011, we have seen creators from MrBeast 54 million views, elrubiusOMG, and Slayy Point, to so many more, create their own end-of-year videos, uniquely capturing the year from each of their perspectives,” a YouTube spokesperson said.

Rather than creating a Rewind video YouTube will showcase its annual trends which should make for an interesting read at the very least. The platform is also planning an “interactive experience” for the end of the year though it’s unclear what this will entail.

Goodbye Rewind, you won’t be missed.
