Huawei’s first desktop monitor, the MateView GT, lands in SA for R13 999

South Africans have two new pieces of Huawei kit to mull over, with the Nova 9 and MateView GT seeing the light of day during an event this afternoon. We are quite familiar with Huawei phones, which is why we’re a bit more interested in the MateView GT monitor that the company revealed.

Technically speaking it is not the first time that we’ve glimpsed this device, with the MateView GT showcased in June by Huawei at a global press conference. Now the desktop monitor is ready to take its local bow and in the process open up a new category for the company in SA as it looks to bring WFH-specific devices to the fore.

The MatevIew GT is a curved 34″ monitor that serves up 3K resolution (3440×1440) and 165Hz refresh rate. There’s support for HDR too, along with a colour gamut of 1.07 billion present on this display with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Huawei has shied away from calling this a strict gaming monitor, but some of the specifications and features should lend themselves well to gaming, such as dark field control which facilitates brightness in low-light sequences, as well as on on-display switch that allows you to toggle through eight different display modes that adjusts according to the type of game being played.

It remains to be seen whether Huawei plans to bring any supporting peripherals to SA alongside this new monitor, but for now, pre-orders are available from 26th November to 6th December, where a R499 deposit will knock R2 599 off of the R13 999 (RRP) price.

With the MateBook series already proving popular locally, it will be interesting to see if the new desktop monitor garners similar fans in SA.
