You will now need to manually refresh your Twitter feed

Back in 2019 when we were touching things without sanitising and not wearing masks, Twitter rolled out an update to the timeline that never sat well.

That update would automatically refresh your timeline and users were not fans of the change. The main reason users weren’t happy is because no matter what you were doing, if the timeline refreshed you were pushed to the top of your feed, losing the tweet or video you were viewing.

Thankfully, earlier this year Twitter announced that it was changing this feature and that change started to rollout on Monday.

“An update to the disappearing Tweet experience is rolling out for web! Now you can choose when you want new Tweets to load into your timeline –– click the Tweet counter bar at the top,” Twitter wrote in a tweet.

You can see an example of the “Show X Tweets” button below.

This is less of a problem on the Twitter apps for Android and iOS and it doesn’t seem to us as if the app’s functionality has changed at all.

With that having been said, we have to point out that this bar above a timeline was present back in 2019 before Twitter culled it. The social media firm has made a habit of releasing features before they are properly tested.

Back in August Twitter changed its font and a few other visual elements before quickly walking those changes back.

To be clear, Twitter does test features and elements of its apps and website before rolling them out but given how badly some of these changes have landed, it should really invest in wider testing measures. Especially if it’s going to be walking back changes it made a few years ago.
