htxt.africast – The Game Awards 2021

This edition of the africast was proudly sponsored by Vodacom Business Internet.

The africast is back this week for the penultimate episode of the year to discuss the Game Awards 2021 and all the new, shiny stuff revealed within it for 2022.

But, before that, let’s talk about the news starting with Google which has recently shared its Year in Search revealing what the world looked for on the most popular search engine, more specifically our part of the world in South Africa. Unfortunately it’s rather grim news with the top result being Sassa checks as the country experiences an economic downturn caused by the pandemic.

On to less serious matters in YouTube which quietly added in the ability to download videos on desktop browsers. This feature has been available for years on the mobile app, but this new incarnation may not be around for long.

Finally there’s Instagram which will once again allow your timeline to be shown in chronological order, but not because of the countless user requests for its re-addition to the platform. Instead the platform has had its arm twisted by the US government probing into the affects of the social media platform on the youth.

Now for our main topic this week in the form of The Game Awards 2021 that left us a bit disappointed by its bloated runtime, many adverts and small choice of games receiving awards. That last part has less to do with the show and more to do with the pandemic affecting game development.

Still there were some great trailers for new games that we’re looking forward to with Titus from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine returning for a sequel and gracing this africast as the header image above.
