Internal reshuffle at Samsung sees two new divisions and CEOs announced

Samsung has announced a significant change to the structure of its company, with it merging specific silos to create two distinct divisions, as well as confirming newly appointed leadership roles.

The new entities in question are the SET Division and Device Solutions.

The former will comprise many of the customer-facing hardware that the South Korean firm manufactures, including TVs, smart and home appliances, along with mobile and wearables. For all intents and purposes then, it is all consumer electronics under Samsung’s purview.

As for Device Solutions, this specifically refers to the company’s semiconductor business, which has had a mixed few quarters given component shortages across the globe and issues in terms of supply chains.

Still, Samsung has been able to weather the storm and post solid figures during the pandemic.

Shifting to the the leadership, the firm announced two new CEOs, each heading up the aforementioned divisions.

“Samsung Electronics today announced its new leadership for the next phase of the Company’s future growth and to strengthen its business competitiveness,” it explained in a press release.

“Jong-Hee (JH) Han was promoted to Vice Chairman and CEO, and will lead the newly merged SET Division as he continues to head the Visual Display Business. President Kyehyun Kyung was also named CEO and will lead the DS Division,” it added.

As such, when the next significant Galaxy Unpacked event rolls around, we may have some new faces to get familiar with. Whether they’ll prove as charismatic as DJ Koh has, remains to be seen.
