The National Department of Health (NDoH) is still undergoing an audit process as regards its daily reporting for COVID-19 in South Africa. This means that some of the current figures being shared might be off, with there being a delay as far as fatalities in particular are concerned.
To that end, of the 100 new deaths recorded as a result of the virus, 30 of these have captured over the past 24 to 48 hours, the NDoH explains.
Consequently, the death toll now sits at 93 571 instead of the 93 551 that the department’s latest infographic displays.
As for infections, 3 658 cases have been reported over the past 24 hours as the total number for the country to date climbs to 3 564 578. Other key figures in the report sees the recovery rate rise slightly to 94.8 percent, while more than 21.85 million tests have been conducted so far.
Looking at the vaccine rollout, turnout continues to hover around the same mark, with 85 885 jabs administered in the past 24 hours. As of 17:00 on 18th January 2022, a total of 29 084 973 vaccines have been administered locally.
