First Galaxy Unpacked of 2022 set for February, with S and Note series potentially merging

Samsung has released a teaser video (featured below) for its first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2022, set to take place sometime next month. The South Korean firm has not revealed a precise date and time yet, but we’re still betting on 8th February based on reports earlier this month.

While we await confirmation on when the big reveals will be happening, what is of more immediate interest is an accompanying editorial piece from Dr. TM Roh, president and head of MX Business at Samsung.

“At Unpacked in February 2022, we’ll introduce you to the most noteworthy S series device we’ve ever created. The next generation of Galaxy S is here, bringing together the greatest experiences of our Samsung Galaxy into one ultimate device,” he writes.

Perhaps we are reading a bit too much into things here, but the use of the word noteworthy certainly hints at features from the Galaxy Note series finding their way onto the Galaxy S series.

To that end, we suspect to see integration of the S Pen stylus for the S series, likely on the larger Ultra model that Samsung routinely reveals each year.

While it would mark a change for one of the company’s most iconic devices, one which started the phablet craze a few years back into the large format smartphones we know today.

That said, given the number of premium devices that Samsung launches each year and the iterative nature of said phones, perhaps consolidating a range of killer features into an uber flagship smartphone might not be a bad idea. It would also open up breathing room for Samsung’s foldables, which usually get released in the latter half of the year.

“We know many of you were surprised when Samsung didn’t release a new Galaxy Note last year. You loved the unparalleled creativity and efficiency of the Galaxy Note series, which enabled you to switch from gaming nirvana to high-octane productivity in the blink of an eye. You raved about the lifelike S Pen, which many say rivals putting ink to paper. And we haven’t forgotten about these experiences you love,” added Roh.

Where past Galaxy Unpacked events have featured more of the same, next month’s one could serve up something truly new. For now we will have to wait to see when Samsung plans to reveal all in February.
