Matric results also available through the MatricsMate app

Yet another official way to access Matric results has been posited by the government, this time in the form of the MatricsMate app.

A collaboration between SABC Education and the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the MatricsMate app is available on both Android and iOS.

“…registered users, who where previously seated for their grade 12 final exams, are able to get their results as soon as they are made available on the day of their release,” reads one of the features on the store page.

While this all seems nice and simple, it unfortunately isn’t, starting with just downloading the app itself.

On the Google Play Store we were given the notification that the app isn’t available on our device (an Oppo Reno 5 5G). One could argue that this is a lesser known brand so this is to be expected, we see now reason why this app is locked down by device at all when all students need to access it.

An even weirder problem is that one user on Twitter reported that the app was falsely reporting the country, also preventing it from being downloaded. We can’t speak for this user and their device or settings, but it seems to be another issue.

These problems persist when you look at the review of the app. Matric results releasing late, long load times, login issues, registration delays and more can be seen in the reviews.

It seems, then, that the MatricsMate app isn’t the most straightforward way to access Matric results. The DBE has recommended retrieving the results from their website directly but, as we reported on when registrations opened for that, that too has its own challenges.

With the DBE reversing its decision to to make the results private, there should be many other ways for Matrics, parents and other stakeholders to access them more smoothly.
