With Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 in limbo, Blizzard announces new IP

Just a week after it was announced that Microsoft would be acquiring Activision Blizzard for $68.9 billion, Blizzard has announced it’s working on a new game.

Yes, with Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 stuck in limbo thanks to delays, Blizzard is working on a new game set in an entirely different universe that is seemingly not based on existing IP.

The game in question has no name and Blizzard is currently recruiting talent for the project. All we know is that it’s a survival game that looks to have some fantasy elements.

“We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console. A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored,” Blizzard wrote in a news post.

The positions Blizzard is recruiting for over on careers.blizzard.com include:

  • Environment Artist (Associate to Senior)
  • Senior Character Artist
  • Technical Artist (FX Pipeline)
  • VFX Artist (Associate to Senior)
  • Senior Character Concept Artist
  • Associate Level Designer
  • Level Designer
  • Lead Software Engineer, Engine
  • Lead Software Engineer, Audio
  • Lead Software Engineer, Server
  • Lead Software Engineer, Tools.

Of course, we can’t mention jobs at Blizzard without talking about the toxicity of the workplace. Just recently a current Blizzard employee relayed the horrors they encountered while working at the developer.

The firm has said it is working to address the toxicity present in its workplace, but how long that will take is unclear. It’s also an unknown quantity as to how this project will be affected by the Microsoft acquisition.

We doubt Microsoft will can the project, but we don’t simply don’t know at this point.
