DHET hosting meeting on Mauritius scholarships this week

Students and their caregivers looking for a scholarship for higher education will want to tune into an online meeting being held this week for scholarships offered in Mauritius.

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is hosting a Microsoft Teams information session about the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme on 22nd June.

The event is taking place between 11:00 and 12:00 local time and can be accessed here.

Registration is required but it only asks for basic details with a first name, surname and email necessary.

We’re really happy to see that the meeting is just a single hour and hosted at this time as it means that both students and or their caregivers who are working can tune in on their lunch break.

While the point of the meeting is to provide information to the public, we can learn more about the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme on the official International Scholarships website operated by the DHET.

“The Government of Mauritius is offering scholarships to eligible South Africans for full-time, on-campus undergraduate and postgraduate programmes tenable in public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Mauritius for the 2022 academic year starting in October 2022,” the site reads.

This wave of applications to the scheme are for the October 2022 intake and it has a deadline of 15th July. All university qualifications – Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD – are listed as supported too. While this is welcome to open the scheme up to as many people as possible, the timeline here for newcomers is rather short as October 2022 is when the academic programmes in Mauritius start.

The scholarship offers provision of tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, basic healthcare in Mauritian public hospitals and return airfare to and from the country.

Hopeful applicants will need to read the criteria on the aforementioned International Scholarships website as it is different depending on the qualification.
