Over the past few months Valve has been making more use of its official Steam YouTube channel, mostly as a way to promote upcoming sales and events. This continues with a short trailer for the Steam Summer Sale 2022.

In the short video quite a lot is revealed, including a mention of mystery badges that will be available before the start of the sale.

The promise of badges was also used to entice people into playing demos in the most recent Next Fest event, so it seems that the company is leaning on these digital rewards to drive up engagement.

The Steam Summer Sale 2022 is taking place between 23rd June and 7th July so if Valve is going to reveal more about these badges it will have to be soon.

Also mentioned in the trailer is a quest for players. Event quests are not new for sales on Steam and usually involve customers checking out games to earn rewards, though again we’re not given much information.

Also a bit of a mystery is “Klorfax” who we assume is a fictional character that is mentioned here. Each sale on Steam usually has a theme and we’ve seen stuff like aliens before so we’re sure that Klorfax, or whatever the spelling of that name is, will be some kind of mascot for the sale.

Finally Valve gives shoppers some advice on what games to buy, suggesting that they make use of the Discovery Queue. For those who have somehow still missed this feature, the Discovery Queue will recommend new games to check out based on titles you have bought and played in the past.

Our advice, however, remains the same: make use of the wishlist. When you see games you like on Steam add them to your wishlist to receive alerts on sales for those games. When a big site-wide sale starts, like a Summer Sale, you can then filter your wishlist by highest discount to find the best deals.
