Eskom has begun the week by implementing Stage 2 loadshedding from 16:00 this afternoon until 05:00 tomorrow morning.
Eskom has warned that if generating capacity deteriorates further loadshedding between 17:00 and 22:00 may become a fixture for Winter.
Eskom cites several plants losing generating capacity as the reason for the latest bout of loadshedding, which lasts until Tuesday evening.
The latest stage 2 loadshedding is planned from 21:00 tonight until 05:00 tomorrow morning, but could be expected as system is vulnerable.
The reason for the suspension given by Eskom is that it wants to allow the nation to participate in the memorial service of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini
Eskom has had to upgrade the severity of loadshedding following the loss of yet more generation capacity.
Despite bringing two units back to service, units at five other power stations failed at the weekend.
According to a power alert, “arious faults” are to blame for the outages as well as “emerging risks at various power stations” are the reason for the extension of Stage 2 loadshedding.
Loadshedding will start at 17:00 on Wednesday and run until at least 23:00 on Friday evening.
Stage 2 loadshedding returns at 22:00 on Tuesday evening.
Eskom says its teams are working around the clock to return capacity to the national grid.
There is a high likelihood that loadshedding continues through to Wednesday this week.
